Blackwater NWR

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern Shore encompasses a 26,000-acre marsh and the largest continuous pine forest remaining on the Delmarva peninsula. Blackwater is an excellent spot for migratory waterfowl. Many Bald Eagles can be found in and around the refuge. The refuge also has a breeding population of Brown-headed Nuthatches.

Point Lookout

Point Lookout is a narrow peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River, just north of where the two bodies of water come together. This site is especially good during fall migration when southbound birds are funnelled towards the tip of the peninsula before they cross the water. Winds from the northwest will direct many species of raptors past the point.
