Great Backyard Bird Count -- Less Than Two Days Left!

I would just like to remind the readers of this site to submit their sightings from this weekend for the Great Backyard Bird Count! The GBBC is a great way to learn more about local bird life. The count helps scientists determine where bird species are spending the winter months and track large-scale changes in bird populations. In time, the data collected during this survey may reveal shifts related to climate change.

To make the data set as useful as possible, it is important to have strong and widespread participation, even from urban areas. The more checklists that DC residents submit, the more accurate picture we will have of bird life within the District. So far DC only has 16 checklists submitted, far below the pace set in previous years.

You can follow DC submissions online.

Remember, you don't need a backyard to participate. You can submit counts from your apartment or condo window, or from a local park or refuge.
