Blackwater NWR
DC Audubon will make its annual visit to Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on the Eastern Shore. Blackwater encompasses a 26,000-acre marsh and the largest continuous pine forest remaining on the Delmarva peninsula, and is an excellent spot for migratory waterfowl. RSVP to trip leader Denise Ryan at (202) 797-6864 if you wish to attend this wonderful trip.
Directions: (Be sure to bring a Maryland road map): Take Rte. 50 East across Bay Bridge and go all the way to Cambridge, MD. Shortly after crossing the Choptank River Bridge on 50 (Cambridge, Md.) go right on 16--there is a large refuge sign. From 16, make a left on Egypt Road after the High School. Proceed down Egypt Rd. (scanning the fields all the way) until you reach the T-junction with Key Wallace Drive, then turn right. The Visitor's Center is about 1 mile up on the left side of the road.
We will leave at 7:00 AM from the usual Eastern Market location (corner of 7th & Pennsylvania Ave., S.E., next to Bread & Chocolate). Bring lunch. For those wishing to go to the refuge directly, we will meet at the Visitor Center at approximately 9:00 a.m.
