Along the Potomac
Birders Enjoy Spring on the C&O CanalFor access, use Pennyfield Lock at the end of mile 19. Pennyfield Lock has parking and access to the towpath. Turn from River Road onto Pennyfield Lock Road and follow Pennyfield Lock Road to the end.
This stretch of canal is excellent for warblers, vireos and other migrant songbirds in the spring. DC Audubon runs a field trip to Pennyfield each May.
