Upcoming Field Trips

DC Audubon field trips are free and open to all. Beginning birders and non-members are welcome to attend. Some trips depart from a carpool location at Eastern Market; others meet at the field trip destination. Check each trip announcement for details.

Trip Guidelines:

  • Always RSVP with the trip leader.
  • Notify the field trip leader if you must cancel.
  • Bring your own binoculars. For waterfowl or shorebird trips a spotting scope is helpful.
  • Prepare appropriately for the weather: sunscreen and insect repellent in summer; warm layers in winter.
  • Bring food, drink, and any medication you might need.
  • Carpooling is encouraged to reduce emissions and provide transportation for carless participants.
  • Most trips are not suitable for young children.
  • Pets are not permitted on our trips. Studies have shown that even leashed pets intimidate birds and thus reduce enjoyment for other participants.
  • Follow the Code of Birding Ethics

DC Audubon has a goal of seeing 200 bird species during its annual fieldtrips. To receive field trip announcements and updates, sign up for our email list.
